About James LaMear
I live in Chicago with my lovely soprano-wife Kathryn and our 70-pound bull terrier Basil. Basil is part slug, part alligator, and all teddy bear. I enjoy good food, drink, the outdoors and anything that inspires good conversation.
I am originally from Richmond Heights, MO, a suburb just west of Saint Louis. Growing up, I enjoyed the freedom of 10-minute traffic jams and a 15-minute rush hour. In Chicago my experience is a little different, and I can occasionally drive as fast as 20 MPH! It seems like the only thing we Chicago drivers like more than going places is NOT going places… while sitting in park on the highway (see you there)!
I have my MBA, and spent more than 5 years working in the consulting business for the fresh foods industry. However, during this time, I discovered that my true passion is the sharing of ideas and telling of stories. So finally, I packed up my 9 – 5 and kicked off my career as a writer.

I consider myself a recovering artist. By that, I mean I’ve accepted that my art form, writing, is critical to my happiness in life. More than that, though, I believe writing can actually empower personal growth. When we write something down it becomes real in a way that it was not before. The willful act of writing a poem or story is an act of creation. Every person has this capacity for creation, and we connect to ourselves and each other when we create something new.
VerseProse is a blog where I get to post my reflections, observations and musings on a variety of topics. These postings are often in the form of poetry or short stories, but they vary. The important thing is the process of creation. Through the process I re-encounter my true self, and discover that human endowment (willful creation) within myself.
