Peaceful Chicago

“Peaceful Chicago” is about the nice peace and quiet that you don’t find in Chicago.

Peaceful Chicago Peaceful Chicago

Peace and quiet,
except for the noise.
Chicago’s a big town,
With big dreams
And big toys.

Speed around town
Except for the stops.
Every three feet
Bumper to bumper
For all but the cops.

We all stop on red,
But they plow on through,
Honking and sirens.
Make a big hole for
Lights red and blue.

Straight down the alley
The horns do not dwindle.
Flying down the street,
With a loud honk
Right by my window.

Trees and grass?
That’s all money saved.
They’re pulling them out
And ripping them up,
Then all shall be paved.

Big trucks lifting,
Dumpsters to tip.
Banging and clanging,
When, at 6AM,
It gets caught on a lip,

Accordion busses
Stop every block.
All coming and going,
Stopping, horns blowing,
Else I’d sleep like a rock.

For peace and quiet
To the country I’ll go.
But when it comes to the loud,
Indiscriminate crowd,
Give me peaceful Chicago.
